About love

“Love is not about looking at each other, it’s about looking in the same direction”. This phrase sums up my experiences with love. It’s all great until one day, someone starts looking elsewhere, and that is ok, it shows you weren’t meant to be, no matter how in love you may be, if there is no alignment, no true love, it will eventually fall through the cracks.


Falling in love is one of the greatest feelings in the world, it’s euphoric and fun, everyone should experience it. However, it should not be mistaken by true love, less sparks but more engrained. It comes with time, it’s a deep rooted connection with someone else, when you are willing to give it all without expecting anything in return because trust, commitment and communication are at the centre of it all.


I’ve had the privilege of experiencing what falling in love hard is, and also grew up with true love around the house, my parents are the best example of this. Both of them with very different characters, a different modus operandi, night and day, but trust, commitment and clear communication were three traits they shared and taught us. Trust in each other’s life decisions, commitment to their shared goals and values (they stuck to it and saw everything through), and clear communication when things went wrong, life-threatening type of wrong. The honesty and openness in how my mother shared her feelings with me when she was sick is how I want my partner to be with me.


Everyone deserves to find true love, but there is no need to rush or force it, it will come. As mum said in her final days, when she was out of time and on her deathbed, “everything has its time, there is no need to rush things”. This is what I will do.
